Samhain
Samhain is a mixed media illustration done for a mixed media class. The illustration had to include a character out of a not so well known holiday, a vignette, a title, at least five characteristics of that holiday, and one traditional detail.
Process
The process begins with research on the holiday’s history and traditions. From there was a mood board with the found info, pictures, color pallets, and rough sketches. Taking those rough sketches and small feedback from others, tight sketches was the next step.
During a second critique, it was suggested that combining the flames from tight sketch number 2 and the charecters scale and pose from tight sketch number 3.
From there I worked in grayscale with textured brushes and traditional watercolor and charcoal textures overlayed on top of each other. Color was then finally overlayed on last.
